We love sharing the joy of Our Little Green Life ◡̈

Welcome to Our Little Green Life! We’re a passionate, plant-loving family based in Edmonton, Alberta. From the cozy confines of our home, we grow and care for a diverse range of indoor plants - each one nurtured with care and intention.

Every plant in our collection begins its journey as a single node, stem, or leaf cutting. With close attention and patience, we cultivate each into a strong, healthy, and well-established plant while maintaining a pest-free environment to the best of our ability.

All of our plant babies are propagated in-house from our Mother plants. We’re currently not growing any Tissue Cultured (TC) in our greenhouse. Every plant you see is grown the slow, hands-on way - from leaf or node to rooted beauty. We’re also not offering any imported plants at the moment, everything is homegrown with lots of love and patience.

We specialize in everything from easygoing Houseplants to Uncommon varieties, with a special love for Rare, Variegated, and Uniquely beautiful species. Our collection includes Indoor Plants, Aroids, Begonias, Hoyas, and Terrarium gems.

At Our Little Green Life, we’re excited to share our growing journey and support fellow plant lovers in expanding their collections. We're so happy you’re here - thank you for considering our small business. Let’s grow some beauty together, enjoy the happiness of nurturing plants, and soak in the joy of plant life!

Plant Care, Transition and Repotting

We are passionate plant enthusiasts dedicated to sharing our knowledge and experiences with fellow plant lovers. While we strive to provide accurate information on plant care and environmental setups, we recognize that each home environment is unique. Therefore, we encourage you to engage with your plants, observe their needs, and adjust your care routines accordingly. This hands-on approach will help you develop a deeper understanding and foster a thriving relationship with your plants.

Plant Care

All our plant babies thrive in our Greenhouse, where humidity levels are maintained between 60 - 80%, temperatures range from 25 - 30 Degrees Celsius, receive 12 - 15 hours of T5 Artificial Grow-lights. and daily exposure to sunlight from the South side window. Some plants are Well-acclimated to regular household environments, while others may need a bit of extra care - any specific requirements will always be noted in their product descriptions.

Watered consistently with tap water (pH 6.5 - 7) when the growing medium is fully dry, and regularly supplemented with Rynan Flowermate 240 Smart Fertilizer, a slow-release formula. The pink beads visible in the photos are from this fertilizer.

We use Lost Coast Plant Therapy as part of our pest management routine, taking great care to ensure our plants are free of pests or damage before they are sent to their new homes. While we make every effort to maintain a pest-free environment, a completely pest-free guarantee cannot be provided. As a precaution, we recommend isolating new plants(Whether purchased from us or elsewhere)for at least a week before introducing them to your collection to ensure there are no pest issues.

Transition

When plants adjust to a new environment, it requires both energy and time. Changes in temperature, light, and humidity can cause temporary stress as they acclimate to their new home. This acclimation period typically lasts for a few weeks, during which it’s not uncommon to observe some yellowing, browning, falling, or drooping, particularly from older, lower leaves.

As time goes on and the plant settles, it will adapt to its surroundings and decrease its leaf shedding, usually only dropping leaves to make room for new growth or in response to seasonal changes. We kindly ask for your patience during this adjustment period, and encourage you to closely monitor your plants while making any necessary adjustments to their care.

Repotting

When plants have acclimated to the new environment and you notice the root system filling the entire pot, it may indicate the need for repotting into a larger container to support optimal plant growth. Repotting can help facilitate continued growth, and it's advisable to transition gradually to larger pot sizes, increasing by one size at a time to provide ample space for the root system to expand.

When removing the plant from its current container, gently turn the pot upside down and tap the edges to loosen the roots without damaging the stem. If repotting from sphagnum moss, it's important to remove as much moss as possible before transferring to a new growing medium.

We recommend using a light and airy soil mix to encourage healthy root growth and overall plant vitality. However, soil preferences may vary depending on the specific plant species and its environmental requirements. For instance, plants such as Begonias or those found in Vivarium / Terrarium setups may have different soil needs.

In 2024, we began gradually transitioning some of our established plants to Lechuza Pon, a premium inorganic substrate known for its excellent drainage and aeration properties. Lechuza Pon helps minimize the risk of root rot by preventing waterlogging and provides a stable, pest-resistant medium, making it an ideal choice for maintaining plant health and reducing common soil-borne issues.
