Our Little Green Life
Plant-obsessed family local business

We learning and thriving with our leafy friends!
We love sharing the joy of Our Little Green Life ◡̈
Welcome to Our Little Green Life! We’re a passionate, plant-loving family based in Edmonton, Alberta. From the cozy confines of our home, we grow and care for a diverse range of indoor plants - each one nurtured with care and intention.
Every plant in our collection begins its journey as a single node, stem, or leaf cutting. With close attention and patience, we cultivate each into a strong, healthy, and well-established plant while maintaining a pest-free environment to the best of our ability.
All of our plant babies are propagated in-house from our Mother plants. We’re currently not growing any Tissue Cultured (TC) in our greenhouse. Every plant you see is grown the slow, hands-on way - from leaf or node to rooted beauty. We’re also not offering any imported plants at the moment, everything is homegrown with lots of love and patience.
We specialize in everything from easygoing Houseplants to Uncommon varieties, with a special love for Rare, Variegated, and Uniquely beautiful species. Our collection includes Indoor Plants, Aroids, Begonias, Hoyas, and Terrarium gems.
At Our Little Green Life, we’re excited to share our growing journey and support fellow plant lovers in expanding their collections. We're so happy you’re here - thank you for considering our small business. Let’s grow some beauty together, enjoy the happiness of nurturing plants, and soak in the joy of plant life!
Plant Care, Transition and Repotting
We are passionate plant enthusiasts dedicated to sharing our knowledge and experiences with fellow plant lovers. While we strive to provide accurate information on plant care and environmental setups, we recognize that each home environment is unique. Therefore, we encourage you to engage with your plants, observe their needs, and adjust your care routines accordingly. This hands-on approach will help you develop a deeper understanding and foster a thriving relationship with your plants.
Plant Care
All of our plant babies are grown and cared for in our greenhouse, where humidity levels are maintained between 60 - 80% and temperatures range from 25 - 30°C. They receive 12 - 15 hours of T5 Artificial Grow Light, along with daily natural sunlight from a South facing window.
Some plants are grown in higher humidity environments or are already well acclimated to regular household conditions, while others may need a little extra attention. Any specific care requirements and the plant’s current growing conditions will always be clearly noted in each product description.
Watered consistently with tap water (pH 6.5 - 7) when the growing medium is fully dry, and regularly supplemented with Rynan Flowermate 240 Smart Fertilizer, a slow-release formula. The pink beads visible in the photos are from this fertilizer.
We use Lost Coast Plant Therapy as part of our pest management routine, taking great care to ensure our plants are free of pests or damage before they are sent to their new homes. While we make every effort to maintain a pest-free environment, a completely pest-free guarantee cannot be provided. As a precaution, we recommend isolating new plants(Whether purchased from us or elsewhere)for at least one to two weeks before introducing them to your collection to ensure there are no pest issues.
Transition
When plants adjusting into a new environment, they need both energy and time. Changes in temperature, light, and humidity can cause temporary stress as they settle into their new home. During this acclimation period, which typically lasts a few weeks, it’s normal to see some yellowing, browning, drooping, or leaf drop, especially from older, lower leaves.
As time goes on and the plant becomes more comfortable, it will adapt to its surroundings and leaf shedding will slow down. Leaves are usually only dropped to make room for new growth or in response to natural seasonal changes. We kindly ask for your patience during this transition, and encourage you to observe your plant closely while making gentle adjustments to its care as needed.
Repotting
Once a plant has settled into its new environment and you start to see the roots filling the pot, that’s usually a good sign it’s time to consider repotting. Moving the plant into a slightly larger pot helps give the roots more room to grow and supports healthy, steady growth. We always recommend sizing up gradually, one pot size at a time, to avoid overwhelming the root system.
When removing a plant from its pot, gently turn the container upside down and tap around the edges to loosen it. Try to support the base of the stem and handle the roots with care. If the plant is growing in sphagnum moss, we suggest removing as much of the moss as possible before transferring it into a new growing medium.
In general, we prefer using a light, airy soil mix that promotes good drainage and healthy root development. That said, soil preferences can vary depending on the plant and its environment. For example, Begonias or plants grown in vivariums or terrariums may require different conditions.
In 2024, we also began gradually transitioning some of our established plants to Lechuza Pon, an inorganic substrate we’ve been exploring for its excellent drainage and airflow. We’ve found that it helps reduce the risk of root rot, stays stable over time, and minimizes common soil-related issues. We’ll continue sharing our experience and updates on this transition over on Instagram @our.little.green.life.
